Please note: Changing the administrative email address effectively transfers ownership of the domain name to whomever has access to that email address. Fraudsters and domain thieves have been known to attempt to have the administrative email address changed as a way to steal a domain name. Please process requests with the appropriate level of caution.
Here are a few guidelines to follow when assessing whether to change the administrative email and contact information:
- If the domain is registered to an individual, you should obtain photo identification and ensure it appears legitimate.
- If the entity is a company then you should obtain documentation from a signing officer or someone authorized to act on behalf of the company.
In all cases, it's best to have requestor send a signed fax with photo identification stating that they, as owner of the domain, authorize the change of the admin email contact. In the case of a company-owned domain, this should be accompanied by some form of official documentation that gives credence to the signing officer's claim. For example, when the business name was registered, there will have been a letter of registration that cites the company name to a person, etc.
Your goal is to be able to connect the dots between the requestor and the company and to ensure that they have the authority to make the requested change on behalf of the organization.

The OpenSRS Control Panel provides all resellers with the ability to edit all aspects of domains in their reseller account. Please note that you'll need to use the new OpenSRS Control Panel. Click on the Domain Manager tab and then search for the domain name in question. Clicking the domain will bring up the edit screen where you can make the changes.
